Russia bought advertising for tens of thousands of dollars in YouTube and Gmail to spread disinformation, trying to influence the election of the US president. This conclusion came to Google after an internal investigation, learned WP.

Google first discovered evidence that Russia was trying to influence the results of the US presidential election in 2016 through several platforms of the company, reports The Washington Post (WP), citing sources familiar with the results of the internal corporate investigation. Advertisements were purchased for tens of thousands of dollars, note the interlocutors of the publication.

Advertising was hosted on YouTube, in Gmail, as well as on the Google-owned advertising platform DoubleClick. Procurement, the newspaper notes, was not conducted from the same sources that they were buying ads for similar purposes on Facebook.
